If you are double minded about buying a natural latex mattress topper, don’t be, just go for it. An organic mattress topper, such as the ones made by PlushBeds is an investment worth making. We all toss and turn during the night, but there are simple ways of changing this sleep pattern. Below are 5 tips to help you sleep well.
Why do we Struggle to Sleep Well?
We all have trouble sleeping at some point during our lifetime. Sometimes, there are major worries which cause us to stay awake all night. But then there are other times when minor issues make us toss and turn. Whilst I am not a sleep therapist, if minor worries are keeping you up at night, here are a few tips that you should try which will help you sleep well. These are tips that I have used to improve my sleep over the last few years.
We all have worries that give us sleepless nights. Sometimes issues can be resolved quite easily, but human nature is such, that we cannot help but worry about the worry. Examples of minor worries include:
- I need to make sure I vacuum the guest room tomorrow
- I forgot to put the laundry in
- Forgot to defrost the chicken
- I didn’t send out the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting
- Cannot believe I made a mistake in the report
- I haven’t changed the bed sheets
Tip 1: Start a List to Help You Sleep Well
Have you ever got in bed and started to worry about what you have to do in the morning? The above are examples of how thoughts make us toss and turn during the first few hours of our sleep. This results in you feeling tired and rushed – not the best start to the day.
I was a worrier. I spent hours tossing and turning because I was thinking about all the things that need to be done in the morning. It meant that I thought about all the things that stressed me out during the day and spent the night looking for solutions.
Not only did this keep me up, I felt tired, run down and agitated the next day.
Worry Less and Sleep More
One day it just dawned on me, by worrying during the night, I was not solving my problem. If anything, I was adding more tiredness to the next day. There was nothing I can do while trying to sleep! So why am I spending so much time thinking about issues I cannot do anything about?
The main reason I struggled to sleep was because I believed that thinking about the problem would help me remember it in the morning. If I did not think about the worry, then I would forget about it; which would be worse than thinking about it all night long!
And that is when it hit me, I was creating my own sleep problems. I therefore, decided to take action and decided to make a list of ‘to do worries’ 30 minutes before going to bed. This way, the ‘to do list of worries’ was still there when I woke up, but it meant that I was starting to sleep better.
It took me a few weeks to adjust to this new routine. Now, several years down the road, I sleep like a baby. Once my head hits the pillow, I am out within a half hour.
Since I stopped thinking and trying to solve problems in my sleep, I wake up feeling refreshed and energetic. I tackle the list as soon as I wake up and then get on with the rest of my day.
Give it a Try
If you are a worrier, try this technique and see if it helps you sleep better. Make your list on your phone, iPad or in a notebook before bedtime. With time, you will notice that your list is getting smaller and insignificant. Nowadays, I rarely have to keep a list next to my bedside.
Tip 2: Bedding Changes – Try A PlushBeds Natural Latex Topper

One of my best buys is a natural mattress topper. Having the right mattress or accessories, such as, pillows and mattress toppers can make the biggest difference to our bodies and ultimately to our sleep patterns. The discomfort we feel while trying to sleep keeps us awake. While we are awake, thoughts from the day start to pour in, making it a worrisome night.
If you are waking up feeling tired, heavy or achy then it is time to change something in your bed. If an organic mattress is not in the budget at the moment, then you should definitely consider buying a natural mattress topper.
Mattress toppers are used to provide softness to an ageing, as well as, new mattresses that are too firm to provide comfortable sleep. If your mattress is too firm then an organic mattress topper will add a layer of cushioning to help you sleep well. If your mattress is ageing, then the natural topper is still a good idea. Whilst you save for a new mattress, the topper acts as cushioning between you and your mattress, therefore, making it last a little longer.
While you are in the market for a new topper, have a look at PlushBeds. They often run sales on their natural latex topper and eco mattresses. Take advantage of this offer when its there.
PlushBeds Natural Latex Topper
PlushBeds supply a range of different types of environmentally friendly mattress toppers, such as, the PlushBeds natural latex topper, the coolbliss memory foam topper and the natural luxury handmade wool topper.
What I like about PlushBeds is their range of environmentally friendly credentials. Their bedding accessories are from sustainable sources and they are free of harsh chemicals that are often emitted into our home as the mattress ages.
The materials used in PlushBeds natural mattresses and toppers are produced in a socially responsible manner. In other words, farmers get paid fairly for their cotton, wool and latex.
PlushBeds have received numerous positive reviews for their natural toppers, as well as, organic mattresses, with the majority giving it a 5 star rating. The overall rating is 4.9 out of 5 stars which reassures you that the customer is satisfied with their organic mattress topper.

Tip 3: Keep up with Fresh Bedding
Fresh bedding is essential to a good night sleep. Change your bedsheet and pillow cases on a weekly basis. You will feel quite relaxed when you get into a bed which has clean and crisp sheets. Changing your bedding will also help if you suffer from allergies.
Tip 4: Declutter to Help you Sleep Well
Spend some time decluttering your bedroom. Remove all unwanted furniture and accessories. The more bulky items we have in the room, the more we have to clean and maintain. Therefore, spend one weekend redoing your bedroom by decluttering and folding away clothes. Give it a minimalist feel.

Tip 5: Polish and Vacuum
A weekly vacuum and polish routine will make the room cleaner and easier to maintain if you keep on top of it. I made a homemade polish using organic coconut oil and an essential oil to wipe down wooden furniture including window frames.
At the moment, I’m using tea tree oil to give the room an aromatic natural scent. Simply take one table spoon of organic coconut oil and about 3 drops of an essential oil. Mix it well and then use a clean cloth to wipe all wooden surfaces.
Take the guilt out of sleeping. If you wake up a 5am every morning, but you oversleep by a couple of hours one weekend, lay in bed without the guilt. Your body probably needed the extra time to recoup. Allow your mind to accept that it is OK to have slept in.
